Missed the Coast Guard Orientation? Get the recap!
SUNDAY'S ORIENTATION WAS A SUCCESS!
On Sunday, around 140 community members gathered for the first Neighborhood Design Gathering to begin the process to reimagine the former Coast Guard housing site.
For some – though they had organized, made donations, written letters, and signed petitions to reclaim this property for the community – this was the first time they had actually stepped foot inside the neighborhood. Others, those who had visited the property before, saw it with fresh eyes and renewed excitement for the possibilities this place holds.
For all of us, it felt like coming home.
Childcare was provided and attendees enjoyed light snacks as they toured the site and the two open homes, both 3-bedroom townhouses. The main program consisted of a bilingual panel discussion: CLAM's Deputy Director and Coast Guard Project Lead Stacey Laumann and Eden Housing's Jeremy Hoffman and others addressed preliminary questions about the renewal process.
JOIN US FOR GATHERING 2 – SMALL GROUP INPUT
Sunday, July 25th
3pm Open House | 4pm Program Begins
Location: Coast Guard Property, 100 Commodore Webster, Point Reyes Station
Gathering 2 will center on small focus-group discussions conducted in Spanish and English in which community members will share ideas, and hear from one another, as architects take it all in to draft a site plan.
Conversations will be organized into three topic areas:
RESIDENT EXPERIENCE: What do we want this neighborhood to feel like for its residents? What does that look like?
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: What’s needed in our community, that could actually work at this site, given its limitations? (We are also in conversation with our community organizations on this, to get their input.)
LANDSCAPE & NATURAL RESOURCES: What kinds of systems can be put in place throughout the site for climate resilience and a coordinated response to any disaster?
