With respect, John Maxim

Earlier this month, CLAM received a generous donation of tools and construction materials from the estate of the late local contractor, John Maxim. John’s tools are helping complete CLAM’s work at 35 Third Street, including finishing the trim and rebuilding a fallen fence. The donation will go a long way for our volunteer days, and in CLAM’s work in general, saving us many future trips over the hill to rent tools and materials.

John passed away on February 27, 2023 at the age of 59. CLAM would like to honor John’s life.

John moved to Marin in 2004. He was an independent contractor, working in San Francisco and later starting his own company in Point Reyes.

John was independent. Music was his passion, which translated into his building, as they share a mathematical base. John taught himself to play guitar at a young age, while living in Algeria with his family. He was a fluent French speaker, educated in France, and lived in Algeria, Canada, and Mauritania. John loved hikes on the beach and in the hills around the Point Reyes National Seashore. He was a stern advocate of animals, both domestic and wild.

John got cancer when COVID started. Around the same time, he got a job with the County as a home inspector. He went through chemo and radiation. John is survived by his parents, two sisters, and his many friends in West Marin. The last house John built stands in Bolinas.

John’s family will host a celebration of life on June 23, 2023 at 1pm at Dance Palace.

Thank you to John and the Maxims for their generous donation to enhance CLAM’s work to create affordable and environmentally sustainable homes in the communities surrounding Tomales Bay.
